    OB/GYN:wk5,day26

clinic day. no operations. i sat in and listened to all that goes on prior to the abortion operation. counseling, discussion of options. i didn't feel like the women were considering the other options (keeping baby, put baby up for adoption) very sincerely. they had already made up their minds.

one woman came in with bruises on her face, arms. didn't have to be sherlock to figure out what was going on there. we talked about what was going on, referred her to a social worker, and got a MD to document the findings. and she still wanted to be with her boyfriend. i don't understand that. if i was a woman, and my boyfriend hit me, i would be like, "see you LATER. i don't need this in my life. i don't want to live in fear. touch me again, and you will find your butt in JAIL." or something like that. absolutely no excuse for physical abuse. remember what peter parker's uncle said, "along with great power comes great responsibility." (i really like that line, although i thought that it didn't fit with the moment in the movie)

i've also thought similar things to myself. and i think that this principle applies to more than just power. along with talent (musical, arts, athletics, etc), along with strength (aka jimmy choi), etc. even height.

like jimmy choi, for instance, who happens to be a ripped and extremely strong dude. i remember seeing him for the first time, and being a bit scared of him. then, i get to know him, and realize that he is extremely nice and a most gentle man. he is a gentleman.

likewise, joe park, who got a lot of attn from the ladies back in the day, and practically every girl had a crush on him before gyju claimed him. you might think that such a guy would be unbearably snobby, and high on himself, but no, he is so very humble, goes out of his way not to impress the ladies (even taking less showers on an infrequent basis, wearing a nasty, greasy, once white abercrombie hat every day ....such dedication...), and just very very humble.

anyway, i hope that this would become true for me someday. with whatever it might be. i hope that the more i become in anything, the humbler i might become. random tangent from the abuse topic...

one patient came in with a 1 yr old kid, who was sleeping. i'm watching this kid sleep, when he reaches out, finds his bottle, starts suckling, and when the milk isn't reaching him, lifts the far end of the bottle to get the milk. all while still sleeping. wow. i don't know why, but i was really impressed. this kid was totally functional while sleeping. i wish i could do that.
