matrix - revolution the first matrix was so revolutionary, i think that people have come to expect that type of ground-breaking/rule-breaking/mind-blowing experience for each successive movie. if you take each movie by itself, they were all awesome. 3 was definitely better than 2, and almost as good as 1. objectively, 3 was BETTER than 1, but relative to contemporary movies and expectations, 1 blows 3 out of the water. as for the movie itself: like in the first movies, there are such strong references to christ, that i could not help but gape at the obvious connections. weirder still: before the movie, trivia questions were being thrown out. here's one that caught my eye: Q: what occupation did the wachowski brothers hold before writing/directing? A: CARPENTING ooOOoo... it is obvious that the matrix franchise won't end with the 3rd movie. and as the first 3 movies followed the life of the christ-figure, neo (as in the NT), i wouldn't be at all surprised if another set of 3 movies come out in the coming years, following the 2nd coming of christ (as foretold in the prophetic books, revelations). given what they were able to to, i'm eager to see what they will come up with next. a final note: i didn't really like lawrence fishburn as morpheus in the 1st movie (his martial art is terrible, for someone who is supposed to be a master). but i am warming up to him a lot. "I have dreamed a dream and now that dream has gone from me." that was heartbreaking. the destruction of The Nebuchadnezzar finalised his shaken faith (when neo told him that the prophesies were false.) his eyes at the conclusion of matrix 3. MAN. THAT is acting. (on par with mel gibson's expression when betrayed by the bruce) while i was leaving the movie theatre, an epiphany hit me. in movies like these, the most moving motif is not the love between man and woman. (in fact, in the matrix, it is hardly moving at all) even in other movies, eros love is not compelling. what WAS compelling, pulling and pushing deeply within me, was FAITH. LOVE, of a higher being. neo and trinity didn't make me cry. when morpheus, seeing the fulfillment of what neo (the christ-figure) was to do, when HE agonized and gloried, THAT made me tear up. makes me think. has it always been this way? yakob at 1:15 AM |
