    whacky, whacky, whacky.

things are just crazy. this is like a ridiculous korean drama, so hard to believe that it is happening. dreams feel more real than this.

no details, sorry, so don't ask. *sigh*

    peds wk 1, day 4

what do you do when you are told to physically examine a very attractive young lady?

up to this point, i had only examined the elderly, or older ppl in general, or really really young kids. but today, i had to examine a girl who was WAY too close to my age. and too attractive.

i have never refused to do anything on my rotations, whether to do rectals, clean up poop, deal with nasty pus-filled stuff, diarrhea, etc, etc. but i almost refused to do this physical.

i ended up doing it, but only a cursory exam. no top off, no bottom off. i just couldn't bring myself to ask her. though i should have. i might have done her a big disfavor, should she end up with some pathology that was missed because of my ... inability to be cold and clinical.

i was doing ok, until she started giggling when i did the abdominal exam. then i felt like a lecher. my ears burned, and i was having trouble breathing.

    being a doctor is hard.

    ******

had lunch with my jewish preceptor and my jewish classmate at a kosher pizza parlour. which was filled by 25-30 jewish kids (there must've been a yeshiva nearby or something). aside from myself, the only other non-jewish person was the mexican dude cleaning and clearing the tables. he looked REAL happy to see me and gave me a big smile.

here i was in a pizza parlour with 25 kids all dressed similarly and all wearing little hats of intricate design, and I felt like the oddball alien there.
