    surgery wk 3, day 15

surprise!: the attending who crushed my spirits and made me feel like crap on march 10, apologized to me today. wow. that is unheard of. apologize to a lowly medical student? this gives me more hope about my future in this field. of course, it did take him a wk to get to it, but in his favor, he had been out of town. but still, this must've been weighing on his mind, for him to come apologize to me first thing on his first day back. i have to say, it does put my heart more at ease, knowing that it wasn't my fault, and that the patient was totally ok.

    heard on the floor:
"birds and gnomes"- term used to refer to the old, thin, and very sick patients. birds = old female pts. gnomes = old male pts.

"he's a weirdo, so watch out!"- resident warning another of a patient

random memories of things from the past that make me happy: (please forgive me, m. you just gotta embrace your embarassing moments, like i do. hehehehe) :D
playing charades at YG: a kid on the opposing team was supposed to act out moses.

so, she starts pointing, with stern commanding looks. then makes motions of things falling from the sky. well, the plagues aren't the first thing that comes to my mind when i would want to act out moses. i was thinking parting the red sea or breaking the tablets of the ten commandments, or something like that. but plagues would work, too, i thought. then, she put one hand on her nose, and the other arm through, in the shape of a . . . elephant? what the . . .? there are no elephants in the ten plagues . .

then, i realized, she's describing NOAH. omg. i was dying. i guess i shouldn't laugh about this, and i'm not laughing so much at the mistake or at the student, as i was at the image of elephants falling from the sky as one of the ten plagues. can you imagine? elephants falling from the sky? i think that would've freaked pharaoh out, and he would've let the hebrews go. i can't get the image of the m***'s earnest enactment of an elephant, tossing her trunk, out of my mind. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. you know i love you, m***!!!!
