the undergrad NYU library (where i've been studying these days) wasn't open when i got there. closed for some ceremony or another. so i went to barnes and nobles to read a bit until the library opened, and found claim potok's (dead, btw. no more heartwrenching books...) Old Men at Midnight

i love the way this man wrote. simple stuff. so much behind everything.
these following lines are those uttered by an ex-KGB officer in the book. (only chaim potok can make one empathize with a KGB officer)

"But now I am sure that I will die in this war, and I wish to die with certain words in my heart and on my lips. There is no point to running away anymore."

< to say the same about this life. but not just any words. to go down, in joy, praising God. no regrets, no looking back. no running away. i want, so much...>

"'Proschay.' it means, 'good-bye forever.' it also means, 'forgive me.'"
    - in the context of the character leaving a suffocating Russia, where he had been a rigid KGB officer. but while reading this, i thought about the process of becoming a Christian. it carries the same tone and feel as the prayer one might say upon receiving Christ:

< forgive me, God, for all my sins.
i accept Jesus as my Lord and Savior, who paid the cost of redemption for my sins.
good-bye forever, old life, for i am a new creature in Christ. >

lines from a book like mr. Potok's can make me choke up and tear up a bit whie sitting against the wall, on the hard wooden floor of barnes and nobles with five other 20 something, new york-looking people.

apart from relationships, can't a girl just stare at a guy too and think, "geewhiz, he's cute...look at the way he smiles."? though, i ain't the one to start like the woman in the cell phone commercial, "hey, my name is jenna, and why don't you be a good boy and sit on mamma's lap." whatevers...the opposite gender was meant to be mysterious or god would have created two adams...sleep...

"ANYWAY, who is this TIM guy? "

that would be me. actually, looking at your site, it seems that we have many mutual friends. I've been down with the Wellesley ATD click for a couple years now. I was supposed to meet up with Gracie Chang a week ago but it fell through... stinks. Rescheduling is difficult, as well. ARG!

"perhaps men should think about the way a girl might feel. "

that is very true. but you must at admit that while guys may make girls feel cheap, girls can be worse to guys in the way they tend to manipulate them and scheme and plot.

"as if all we are is something that heightens a male's visual senses"

I can counter that by pointing out the expectation girls tend to have for us to be objects to satisfy every emotional need that they have.

My point is, both sides have their different faults but it all averages out to be the same in terms of the level of how faulty we all are: very. It's not a question of which sex is better than which, but a question of how willing either side is to admit personal fault and to make a real honest effort to understand the way the other side works.

hey, i'm no expert when it comes to these things. but being that i AM a female and i DID graduate from an all women's college, i have pretty strong views on stuff like this. don't get me wrong, i am NOT a femi-nazi. :)

perhaps men should think about the way a girl might feel. put yourselves in our shoes for a moment. do you think a woman will like being stared and oogled at by men? no, i don't think so. well, at least i wouldn't. it makes us feel cheap.... as if all we are is something that heightens a male's visual senses.
    just my two cents.

Tim is a great guy. your year. from my college, JHU. ppl say that we are alike in many ways.

    and...
    i'm not very wise. HAHAHA
i don't look for someone that's too good looking. i just can't help looking.

believe it or not, i make it a point to AVOID girls that are too good looking. not on the street, but if i'm at some sort of gathering, and the girl is probably getting a lot of attn ANYWAY.

not that my attn matters, but it's my small way of rebelling. anyway.

ANYWAY, who is this TIM guy? i hear ya, many girls aren't that much better in terms of being superficial... sad, but true.

a word to the wise: don't look for someone that is too good looking...:) it's not all about looks anyway.
