i wanted to post yesterday's C.S. Lewis quote, which struck me at the time, but now i can't remember it. poop. in it's stead, i present to you Kicksology.net, one of my favorite sites to frequent. and some of the astonishing things to gawk at.

(perfectly captures the class, the drive, and flair of jordan)

    (makes me lust)

    (makes me lust)

(i put this one up because of its absolute garishness. but, i LIKE IT. man, you BETTER be a baller if you are going to be putting these on. either that, or a die-hard sonics fan)

    *******
    addendum
eva asks: I'm perplexed; I just don't get it. Can someone explain the boys and their Nikes concept to me?

    ah eva, it's a multi-headed beast:

    1) THE FUNCTION- anyone who has ever played four hours of ball in bad shoes knows how important it is to have the right shoes. just the smallest thing can totally ruin your game. i've had bball shoes that were just the tiniest bit too narrow. shoes the pinched my pinkie toe. shoes that had an annoying tongue that kept biting into my ankle. shoes that didn't have enough lateral support, so that i sprained my ankle. shoes that didn't have enough cushioning, so that pain shot up my heel when i came down after jumping. shoes that didn't have a good enough grip for sharp cuts.

the fit, the comfort, the support, the grip, these are all crucial things that ball shoes MUST deliver. especially for guards that depend on quicks and cuts rather than power to make their moves, the proper shoe is the most critical thing to have. (that, and a clean bball floor)

    2) LIKE MIKE, I WANT TO BE LIKE MIKE- the type of shoe you wear says a lot about what type of player you are, or what type of player you would LIKE to be. guards have shoes that are light, non-bulky, midcut, shoes that look sleek and smooth. forwards and centers have shoes that LOOK powerful. they are built for heavy ppl, who need lots of support to box out their opponents, good cushioning, and great ankle support. all you have to do is compare the hyperflight line (guards like t. brandon) to the air max line (forwards/centers like barkely, d. robinson). the funny thing is, not every recognizes how the shoe should reflect their game. so sometimes, you see a big, chunky dude wearing hyperflights or something like that, and it's just ludicrous, seeing the shoes on them. but even for those guys, they'll realize after a while that such shoes are terrible for them.

    3) THE SWEETEST THING- guys don't care about how things look generally, but shoes are different. it might not even matter how the shoes look on the person. sometimes, it is the shoe in itself. it's like admiring a car. you oooh and aaah at the design, the lines, the boldness, the colors. it can be downright sexy. but when you feel like it DOES look good on you. ooooOOOOooo... whole new ballgame. it's also a measure of personality. there are those who take the bland designs, who like to hide that they have even new shoes. you have the posers that get the newest jordans every time, even though they have NO game. you have the guys that like the flashiest colors possible. you have the guys that like some flair, but keep it in moderation.

if i must compare shoe lust with something girls have, i guess it would be handbag lust. but it's a little different, because nearly all handbags can serve the same purpose. it's not like some handbags have crucial little compartments. it's all about the name and looks for girls, i think (how ridiculous, no? couple hundred more for a name?!! talk about things that don't make sense, eva, miss consumer sl*t bear). for guys, nike has become the standard, simply because they consistently kick out the superior shoe. i've had reeboks, i've had adidas, and it's just nowhere close. paying $20 more is worth the relief your feet will feel. if another shoe brand were to give another shoe that made my feet feel great, and was wonderful functionally, i'd choose that one in a flash over the "newest nike."

some girls don't have handbag lust, not every guy has such shoe lust.

    this boy does.

[ esther wished me a happy hump day. uh... ok...

esther, there are more CONVENTIONAL ways of doing this, you know... just ask me to dinner or something... ;) ]
