Psych week 2: day 7
set my alarm for 6am to prepare for rounds, but got up at 8. my body is still aching from ball on sunday. love hurts. presented my three patients (same number as the residents!! we're basically doing everything they are doing, now. only missing the experience they have. craziness) during rounds to the staff, attendings, and residents. my voice wobbled and cracked, i was disorganized and said, "um.um." a lot. incredibly, my fellow med student and i got kudos afterwards. i think they are just trying to be nice to us since we were so pathetic back there, and they didn't want to crush our morale, as they surely would have had they been honest. had community mtg on the unit after rounds. this is where all the patients get together and discuss issues that are pertinent to the community. one patient kept on telling all the patients, on an individual basis, to go to the mayo clinic for treatment. this was so strange that i didn't think to laugh. until the 3rd and 4th time that he said it. later, the patient raised his hand and said: "yes, i have an issue. i would like to talk about the concept of having a psychiatric patient sign a contract. i have a problem with that." i couldn't hold back the smirk and giggle that came out of me. the lucidity! that comes upon these patients at times is amazing. i live for moments like this. it's ironic beyond belief. they will deny that they are crazy, but recognize that it is a strange concept to ask crazy people to sign contracts. hilarious... did my business today rather efficiently. interviewed my patients by myself, found things that were missed before and give a better insight into the patients. a good day's work. aside from the rounds presentation, that is...i'm still sweating thinking back at it. as i was leaving, ran into my chief resident and his pal. chatted as we were going down elevator, etc. then, the chief looks outside, where it was pouring buckets. ah me! i am such a brown-noser! i offered to let them borrow my umbrellas, since i knew i had two at my place. your shameless monkey then ran across the lobby, down the stairs, thru the underground hall, to my dorm, took the elevator to my room, grabbed the umbrellas, and flew back to them. i have no pride. yakob at 6:19 PM |
