Psych Day 5
admitted bipolar patient. manic and depressed. pt was in manic stage, and streams of nonsensical words were pouring out of her. 45 min to get a little bit of information. it is scary to see this manifestation. something is really wrong in this person's brain. any lay person would immediately be able to diagnose, "this person is crazy." i left the interview feeling profoundly disturbed. a brief moment of humor: during the interview, pt is describing her family, and says, "everyone in my family is ok. they're smart, successful. except R. he's crazy (rolls her eyes and makes circles with her index finger next to her ear). i almost burst out laughing right there. only a moment ago, i was thinking the same thing about HER. here she was, in a seclusion room (room locked from outside. no angles anywhere. no objects other than a mattress on the floor, sheets and blanket. usually reserved for really disturbed patients), talking about her crazy relative. things were too backward for my mind to take. in down time, read exerpts from papers on psychoanalytic theory and freud's the method of interpreting dreams, for my psychoanalytic theory elective in my psych clerkship. i disagree with much of the content on the material that i am reading. still, i must confess that it is extremely fascinating. much as the little chinese acrobats at disney world contort their bodies in unbelievable ways and perform tricks that serve absolutely no purpose, yet are fascinating to see and marvel at. ok, maybe not to THAT degree. what can beat those chinese acrobats? nothing. they are incredible. after i finish studying this, i might apply some of the methods to my own dreams, and see what i come up with. we shall see. **** 6pm- indian food for dinner that scathed my esophagus. as good indian food does. chicken tikki masala and naan. it's what indian food is all about. **** 8pm- praise team practice. just rocks. so fun to be there and praise. **** 10pm-2:30am -prayer mtg. much needed. there were a lot of things that were on my heart and mind. so much so that 4.5 almost wasn't enough time to pray for everything that i needed to pray about. there is probably more than will reveal itself in time. no doubt. an amazing God gives me truly amazing Grace, everyday. i'm forever thankful. yakob at 3:24 AM |
