  • SUMMER VACATION
    Tuesday, July 25

Ah. summer vacation. when have i last had a real summer vacation? NEVER.

this summer shouldn't be a real vacation, either, because i've got so much to do, but hey, I DON'T CARE. my life is screwed up in that the one time that i should be enjoying myself is also one of the most stressful, harrowing times of my life, and i'm not even talking about medicine.

    enough complaining.

    happier subjects:

    MONTREAL!

    1. consistently rated one of the top cities in the world to live in.
    2. has the draw, charm, and feel of europe, only in north america (only 6 hrs away from new york)
    2. less stressful than new york
    3. safer and cleaner than most big cities
    3. lots of "culture"
    4. known for great restaurants, bistros, fun night life
    5. has a casino!
    6. weather a little less hot and humid (this, i can't stand about new york, baltimore, philly)
    7. known for a strong gay community (i.e. probably tolerant, not racist), has an established asian (mostly chinese) community
    8. real estate is way cheaper
    9. some people say that the french are snobs, but apparently, at least 30% are anglophiles, and pretty much all understand english
    10. ... couldn't think of #10.

here's what frommers has to say about montreal.

    montreal tourism site.

craigslist has dozens of short term studios (nightly, weekly, or monthly basis) for $60-80 a night (for 2)

my brothers, sisinlaw and i are gonna check montreal out 2nd weekend of august, scope it out. who knows, after i build a stash of cash, may buy some property there way, way way into the future. not as a permanent residence, but as one of my 3 homes.

    future homes?
    1) cute brownstone in downtown montreal (so much cheaper than new york, you would not believe it)
    2) 50+ acres in nova scotia, to be bought for less than $100,000, where i will build a monstrous mansion for $2 mill.
    a) which will also have a separate building complete gym with full size bball court, treadmills, weight room.
    b) which will also have a huge, nice kitchen with a big island. ahh... won't that be nice.
    b) which will also have a big vat of sul-long tang that will be going 24/7 for family and friends.
    3) mcmansion vacation home in salt lake, utah, for $300,000, where family and friends can crash for snowboarding/skiing during winter (hot chocolate/smores with fireplace), canoeing/fishing during summer (dry, warm summers with clear, BLUE, BLUE skies are beautiful compared to the nastiness on the east coast during summers).

all this for approximately 5-6 mill. which seems a heck of a lot better than buying a 2-3 bedroom apartment in new york, but hey, call me crazy.

i will able to afford all of this when i am approximately 70, after paying back my ridiculous debts, and accruing money slowly. too old to travel, too old to ball, too old to snowboard, too old to do anything but read.

such is the sweet deal that doctors get.
