    Wednesday, April 7

ran across suicide club in Everyday Words. watched this movie with esk. i didn't analyze this as deeply as cc did.

my conclusion: japanese people are REALLY weird. when lost in translation first came out, i didn't really like it, because it seemed to portray japanese as a weird alien nation completely different from the rest of the world. after watching the suicide club, i wondered, maybe that's not so far from the truth...

while watching the movie, i was consumed by a sense of horror at the non-sensical, whimsical nature of modern japanese culture.

this isn't hating on the japanese. i'm just really really glad that the japanese friends i have are normal. (all 2 of them) :)

on a happier note, check this out. (stolen from ak)

for some reason, it made me smile and kinda happy.
(which is also a little disturbing. WHY does this make me happy?you'll see.)
