CHARACTER/THE HEART

one of my favorite people in the bible is king david. he was the famous youth who took down goliath, the great king of israel, the one everyone loves.

he was also the man who indirectly caused the death of one of his commanders, and moreover slept with that man's wife (Bathsheba). it's a famous story, and one that is repeated as proof that "even king david had his faults."

but when you really think about it, what he did was incredibly terrible. i mean, look at what is going around kobe. here is this dude who says he's has consensual sex with a girl, and people are ready to keep him from playing ball for the rest of his career, to put him in jail for 50 yrs. with kind david, we say, that was BAD, but we still revere him as the man who had "a heart after the Lord."

if david did what he did in today's times, can you imagine how we would be completely repulsed by him? he would be ruined in every imagineable way.

but we DO remember king david as the one who had such faith as to defeat Goliath as a little boy, as the "greatest king of israel," the author of many incredible psalms, the man after God's heart.

and i agree.

because the most important thing about a man is not every little action that he has or has not done. if we were truly to be measured in such a way, we are all condemned.

grace.

grace to look into a person's heart, and SEE.

how nice it would be if this is the way we all saw each other. i wish other people would see me in this way. i wish i could see other people clearly in this way.

but instead, we see the little things. we incorrectly draw conclusions and visualize false character/images.
