yesterday, our small grp went to yuka (81 st and 2nd ave) to celebrate jason's b-day, as has become our sm grp tradition of celebrating b-days.

do you know what i love about yuka? besides how they STUFF the handrolls with lots of eel and avocado or spicy tuna, my favorites?

i love the way they greet you. i don't know what they are saying, and i sure as heck can't reproduce the sounds. for all i know, they could be cursing me with a smile. but boy, i love that greeting! it's like the japanese version of "cheers," where everybody knows your name. well. not your name. and only the sushi chefs greet you. fine, the connection is weak. but you get the same, nice, warm feeling.

there are times when i go, and the sushi chefs don't notice me, and they don't do the greeting. i tell you, it's a sad feeling, and the meal is just not the same.

anyway, the food was great, i stuffed myself just short of being uncomfortable, and the company was awesome. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JASON!
