dream
setting: winter. living in a log cabin in the wilderness. i was hunting a rabbit for food, and had managed to chase it into the barn. the rabbit was trying to squeeze through the bottom of the wall, but i knew that my father was outside, with his rifle, ready to kill the rabbit. dreamshift to outside the barn: a huge orangutang crashed about and came out of the woods. father swung around and shot at the crazed orangutang. it took several warning shots for the orangutang to go away. dreamshift inside: just as i was about to shoot the rabbit, it managed to squeeze through. i heard some shots, so i ran outside to see if father had gotten it. as i rounded the corner, i was surprised to see father look at me with crazed eyes and lift his rifle at me. i immediately took off for the woods. several shots hit around me, and one put a hole in my clothing. but i didn't stop and kept moving. i ran until i couldn't run anymore. walked until i was rested, and ran some more. in my winter furs, i could be mistaken for a bear, i told myself. that was why father was shooting at me, i thought. by night, i had reached a different valley. dream-bird's eye view of the vast, snowcovered valley... i found a tree with a fork in its branches where i lay down, and slept. my sleep was interrupted by some soft rustling underneath. i cautiously lifted my head, not making a noise. an indian (native american indian) walked softly by. he had hard eyes, a gaunt body that knew better times, and the alertness of one who was hunted. in my rush to evade my father for the winter, i had completely forgotten about other dangers. i knew that this would be the beginning of brush-ins with this indian. /dream i don't know if i was living the dream, or if someone was telling me the dream. to a degree, i didn't feel like i was in the dream. more like i was watching the dream. and the father in the dream definitely was not my father. **** thank you, olivia, for suggesting i sleep the other way around. i am having much less trouble sleeping. now, i don't get a cold current above and a hot current below right around my face and upper body. it happens to my feet, which tolerates it a lot better. :) yakob at 3:32 PM |
