    OB/GYN:wk 3,day2

today was didactic day. lectures. for me, that means, go to some of the lectures, and ditch the rest to do all the errands that i can't otherwise do b/c of my schedule. it's weird. i'm not even asking to have any leisure time, or time to meet up with my friends. i'm just asking for time to get my passport, schedule my step 1, stuff that HAS to get done, you know? and i basically HAVE to ditch my lectures to do it, since all these gov. offices close at 4 or 5. (i get off work at 6:30) something is wrong with this system.

i'm looking at my call schedule. it looks something like this:

    this SUNDAY, Sept 1: 9am-6pm.
hours aren't bad, but they ARE TAKING MY SUNDAY AWAY. they are INVADING THE LORD'S DAY. isn't there a law against this? i'm wondering how the jewish ppl deal with the sabbath. given the high jewish population in this place, i'm sure they have something worked out. i have to look into this. as of now, i will be missing ALL of church this sunday. this stinks.

the SATURDAY after, Sept 7: 9am to SUNDAY, 9am
again, invading my sundays. i'm going to be dead on sunday, during all the services. LORD, forgive me if i fall asleep. friends, please take good notes for me.

the FRIDAY after, Sept 13: 6pm- SATURDAY, 9am
oh, that's not that bad, right? no, it's not, except that i will also have been working all that day friday, from 5:30 am. folks, that is 27 hours STRAIGHT. this is CRAZY.

i don't know why they are doing this to us. we're helpful, but honestly, we're not that crucial to the process. the nurses who are getting PAID can assist just as easily. in fact, that's their JOB. we medical students are free labor.

are they trying to give us a taste of resident life?
are they trying to let us know that they can play with our lives as they please?
    i'm not sure...

it will take some medical student accidentally killing a patient or a baby for them to wake up and realize that they are pushing ppl a little too far.

    27 hrs. dang.
