argh!! it is so complicated to get some simple server space from my school. stingy, stingy, stingy... my page is going to look pretty ugly until i can get this mess straightened out.
i woke up this morning to a wonderful baritone cradling a hymn. i got up out of bed, wondering where it was coming from. was someone playing hymns on their stereo, carrying the sound all the way to me? i looked out my window, and saw a circle of people gathered in front of the white tent outside of my dorms. a black gentleman was crying as he sang a hymn for the wtc victims. there was a service going on right outside of my building. i sat back and listened to the end. for those of you who didn't know, the New York City's examiner's office is part of the NYU Medical Center, and more specifically, attached to my dorms. because of the sheer volume of bodies and parts, they've had to take the parking lot right across from me, and erected a huge white tent, almost the size of a small stadium. There, the pathologists and forensics docs work continuously to identify and label. i remember first seeing 4 huge refrigerated semis parked outside. it took a while for us to figure out that they were for temporary storage of the bodies. i was able to watch, and help a tiny bit, a couple days after the event. there were body parts of every size and shape imaginable. it was wholly unreal, something out of a video game. i'll be happy to never see something like that again. on that note, time to get some serious studying done today. yakob at 1:45 PM |
