i was chatting with someone today, and during the course of the chat, i shared a little bit about what is on my mind and heart in regards to the future...

    missions
    1) i want to serve in missions, at least temporarily, and perhaps fulltime.
    2) i will take an overseas missions trip as an elective, during my fourth year
    3) i will go on a missions trip after residency
    4) after the above, i hope to go on missions trips regularly, perhaps once every 2-3 years at the least, and perhaps full time (depending on how and where God leads me)

    education
    1) i hope to go to seminary at some point, to deepen my knowledge and understanding of God and the Word. i know that such a thing is not necessary, nor practical, but i would love so dearly to go, even though i'm not becoming a pastor or anything
    2) i hope to go to public health school after medical school, and get an MPH. i want to have all the tools to help long term healthcare as well as immediate care. if there is one thing i learned from being a public health/bio major, that was it. (that, and the difference between sensitivity and specificity. :)

    practice
    1) practice medicine and demonstrate the love of Christ in doing so
    2) take time, regardless of how tough things get, in spending time with God in praise, prayer, and in the Word
    3) take time with family and especially my wife, for whom i'm willing to forgo any children, because i want to spend that time with her. if she wants children, i willing to oblige, too. a football team, if she so desires...haha

i know that there are others in medicine and other professions who serve God by doing their thing, making money, serving in the church, and supporting full-time ministries. i respect that. but i'm not built that way. i would like to be stretched out to the point of being broken, in any and every way i can, by my God.
