whew. i'm pooped.
after the ceremony, i went out with most of the fourth years for dinner at a korean restaurant. i had yuk gae jang, which i love. it goes down like a gentle, warm flame, heating up my tummy. one thing it really lacked, however, is the key ingredient to good yuk gae jang (sisters, take note of this): goh sah li. this is called a baby fern or something like that. it grows in a lot of places, but it is particularly good from Big Bear mountains. hal muh ni's (grandmothers) can be spotted along the hills, foraging for these ferns to make good yuk gae jang. goh sah li brings out the flavor of the beef brisket slivers, and gives the soup a great consistency, similar to what okra does for gumbo. i miss my mom's yuk gae jang... anyway, while we were at the restaurant, a pretty waitress was being ever so friendly. and on top of it, her friendliness was focused on one of the brothers. made for great jokes, etc., but seriously, that brother might have missed out on the best chance of his life. because that restaurant was known for being christian, she was pretty, and she was a happy person. not flighty, not ditzy, but just a happy person. it was a wonderful combo, but alas, the brother was not bold. i took a picture of the brother, with the waitress in the background, for memories sake. i think she knew what we were up to, and she was smiling the whole time. even when we were kinda lounging about outside, she looked outside and smiled. life gets crazy, sometimes, no? what bizzarre happenings. a great sending off message (the abridged version): PREPARING FOR A LIFE OF SERVICE: 1) Be certain that you belong to Christ, and he to you. 2) cultivate intimacy with God (else die spiritually) 3) cultivate intimacy with spouse (as you drift away from your spouse, you drift away from Christ. and vice versa) or spouse-to-be 4) associate with like-minded friends and believers (you can't go it alone. you need fellowship, accountability) 5) seek a life of holiness (not a doctrine, but a lifestyle) 6) integrate your faith into your practice 7) be available and flexible to redirection from God our calling is 1st as Christians in service, not as doctors who happen to be Christians. we need a life change from success to significance. ok, i'm off to bed. STORM youth group at 8 am. good night. yakob at 1:05 AM |
