had a great time yesterday at the new year's eve party at RCC.

joyce and i wrecked some teams at the foosball tourney, and came away with the championship. YEAH, team STORM!!!
actually, i was really surprised by how good joyce was... :O

and who did we beat in the finals? team sweden. hehehehehe... they were at full strength, but alas... hehehehe....

gong show was short but funny. i would've prepped something, but i had no time after the retreat, and quite honestly, i was beat...

j*** said something really funny (and mean? i'm not clear on this one) to d**: "why don't you read your i want to be a soldier poem?!?!" i wasn't sure whether to be shocked or to laugh, but dag, that was craziness...

although the shindig was fun, there was something missing... someONE missing... :(

today, had the traditional dduk gook. so good. korean food is not always spicy and burning. some, like dduk gook, is mild and smooth, and makes the world seem mellow. i'll post a pic i took of my mom's dduk gook later.

brunch convo with my fam: jimmy is talking about going over to joanne's house later, talking about joanne's parents... i'm listening, thinking about something that has confused me for some time, so i ask: "why is joanne's mom called a jhang noh nim?" my parents look at me, confused for a minute. then, my mom starts howling. now, when i say howling, i mean howling. i have never seen my mom laugh like this. if there was any doubt before as to why i laugh the way i laugh, it is now gone.

she was practically crying. i was trying to laugh with her, but i couldn't. doggone it, she was laughing at ME.

me: "what?! what?! what's so funny?!!!!!!"
everyone laughing at jacob: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
mom: "HHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!"
me: ...........?!?!?!?!?!!!!

so, i knew jhang noh nim meant "elder." what i didn't know was that jhang moh nim meant "mother-in-law," and jhang ihn uh luun meant "father-in-law." jeez, how am i supposed to know? no one taught me that. elder and mother-in-law sounds very similar in korean, especially when it is said very quickly, and you aren't really listening for a distinction.

anyway, i don't think mothers should ever laugh at their children the way my mom laughed at me. jimmy says that's how i laugh, except i also point my finger as i howl. still, she's my MOM. jeez.
