i raked leaves today. which was a first for me. no one rakes leaves in LA. first of all, there are usually no leaves to rake, seeing as there is no fall. and any gardening that needs to be done, gardeners, who are usually mexicans, are hired.

i had no idea that raking was such a full workout. i was working up a sweat. but you know, it felt really good to be doing something so domestic, so suburban, outdoors. taking in the smell of wet leaves, cold air in your lungs... it's a good feeling. let's just say Robert Frost wouldn't have been able to write his poems in LA.

while we (david, my younger brother, and I) were raking, i looked up, to see an old hal-muh-ni raking the our leaves on our lawn. what the? where'd SHE come from? and why the heck was she raking our leaves?!

i called out to her, and she turned and smiled at us. she said she was a neighbor, and that she knew our parents. still, we didn't want an old grandmother do be doing manual labor for us. that's not cool, right? still, all our requests for her to stop did no good. after asking her so much to stop, i gave up. i thought, maybe old people want to feel a part of normal life, helping out, instead of just sitting. so, what the heck. might as well let her help. and she WAS helpful. slow, but helpful. she was stubborn. so, the three of us worked together until we were done.

i bet she's gonna be crazy sore tomorrow. then, she's gonna regret not listening to us. hahahaha. david tells me that i was not being very korean, NOR acting like the older brother (meaning i should have persisted until she stopped). he said, laughing, "that's not what Jesus would have done, bro" (mocking me, cause i'm always saying, "what would Jesus do?") "Jesus would be real sad with you right now..."

hahaha. suburban life is interesting too.

now, i'm off to best buy to buy one of my favorites movies, don juan de marco, which is on sale for $6.99!!! before i prepare my steaks. :D
