    received my freshdirect shipment:
    2 ribeye steaks
    2 t-bone steaks
    spare ribs
    salmon steaks
baby red potatoes, onions, garlic, mushrooms

this is all in preparation for tomorrow's dinner. i'm going to try making wasabe-crusted ribeye steaks, do something a little more ordinary for the t-bones (butter, salt and pepper) unless i get more inspiration for something more daring from joy of cooking, and prepare the spare ribs with soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic and scallions.

midnight run to the local supermarket here in closter, nj for movie watching snacks. lots of chips, cookies, dip, chili, cheese, cereal, etc. guy food. there was no one manning any of the cashiers, though. there were just 4 drunk guys clowning around while stocking the aisles. it took them a while plus us hounding them before a guy finally came to ring us up.

while waiting, however, i noticed large US flags on sale. upon closer inspection: "made in thailand."
is it too much to ask for american flags to be made in the US? it was good for delirious giggles, though...

    unforgiven:
clint eastwood. there is just something about his face. it is a face of someone who has lived through 3 lifetimes of suffering and toil. weathered face, squinty eyes, popping veins running tortuously at his temples and down the center of his forehead, clint eastwood is a MAN.

although i love reading westerns, i'm not a big fan of western movies. there is a silly, cheesy romance, a big gunfight at the end, and the dude rides off into the sunset. in this movie, however, clint eastwood is an old man, tired, broken. his wife had changed him from his murderous, drinking, theiving ways. the movie starts with her death.

this movie is great because there are no bad guys. there is no good guy. it just portrays people following their hearts and emotions. it demonstrates the WEIGHT of life, of the taking of a life. not like a typical clint eastwood western at all. there are no happy moments. a lot of abrupt, sad, moments.

the innocence of children, young men, prostitutes, and old men, all rolled into one, then blown away to reveal the nakedness of human folly. after you watch the movie, think about the title.

    mr. deeds:
another collection of really silly adam sandler moments. it was GREAT. no pretending that this is a high quality movie for adam sandler, no siree. but what can i say? it's entertaining.

but the TRUE highlight of the evening: while at blockbuster, i came across the cute little squirrel-like creature from ice age. i HAD to buy him, cause he had these HUGE, bulging eyeballs that were wandering. it makes me happy just to look at him. i'm a poor student, but at least i'm now a poor student with a cute prehistoric squirrel stuffed animal with wandering eyes!!

    note to self: lun/pho/wyuna!yay!
