OB/GYN: wk1, day2:
tuesday's are didactic. which meant i was in 7 consecutive lectures today, with a short lunch break. basically, we reviewed all of female anatomy, embryology, pathology, and physiology in one day. i think i might've retained 1/20th of it. some major reviewing tonight, is in order. the flip side is that i didn't have to do any pelvic exams, and we got off relatively early, so i was able to run some errands. have to get my passport renewed, so went down to chinatown to get a haircut and get passport photos. post office was closed by then, so i'll have to finish this some other day. while in chinatown, suddenly felt the urge to eat healthy instead of the garbage i've been eating lately. too many cheeseburgers, deli sandwiches, and pizza. this was the one time that i didn't feel like hitting up big wong (wonderful cheap chinese restaurant). i instead made my way to the east side, where someone told me was a relatively big supermarket. the east side of chinatown is remarkably different from the canal/mott area. the latter is catered to some chinese, but mostly tourists. the east side is for chinese, period. that area is definitely less glitzy (i can't believe i'm implying that chinatown proper is glitzy), and filled with gaunt, unemployed chinese ppl. no preppies or yuppies in THAT area. on the way, i ran into a wonderful store. it was filled with kitchenware. not your standard Circulon, Calphalon, or Farberware. it was raw stainless steel, copper, etc. rows and rows. huge woks. the stuff that chinese restaurants use. i spent a good 30 minutes in there, dreaming of the kitchen that i might one day have. a nice big area, at least double the size of standard kitchens for the size of my house...with either stainless steel or marble tops/finishes... an large island in the middle with stools...two refrigerators (one korean, one non-korean. cause you know that the korean food will stink up and contaminate all other foods...i can't stand it when i can taste the kimchee in my non-korean food...you know what i mean, right? maybe i'll get a separate kimchee fridge)...4 large gas burner's with plenty of space inbetween, so i can work a wok. lots of pots and pans hung up... a solitary plant on the window sill above the double sink... that would be nice...ooh, oooh! and a huge outdoor grill that i might build myself, to cook steaks, kalbi, other meats, veggies, and maybe a hot fire oven to make some pizza? haha. that would be sweet... so anyway, after that i headed to the supermarket and got stuff for crazy cheap prices. especially the veggies. dang, i paid like 1.50 for a random assortment of many vegetables. spent a good $20 on sauces (fish, hoisin, black bean), spices (madras curry powder), sesame oil, dry noodles (not the instant or sapporo kind), etc. and fruit. white peaches (mmmmm!!!!! i can just imagine when i take a bite out of a refrigerated one...oOooo), bananas (i don't really like, but i'm doing it for the potassium, so i won't cramp up as much), fuji apples (as james ha and i know, the best apples in the world. crispier and sweeter than any other), and grapes. mmmm, mmmm. so, this is my commitment to eating a little healthier. i can't tell my patients to take care of their health if i'm not doing the same. somehow, in the midst of my working and studying, i want to work out regularly, eat healthy, and in moderation, instead of stuffing myself with every meal. eventually, i would like to get back into my experimental groove that i had in my last yr of college. maybe i can get a part time job at one of these chinese restaurants and learn their secrets? yakob at 6:38 PM |
