i forgot to mention a very important thing from yesterday's ballin'. chuckie i'm-gonna-dive-for-every-loose-ball okamura outdid himself on sunday, obtaining several bruises in his hip area (contusion due to impact of anterior superior spine of the iliacus to the hardwood floor).
he also sprained his right ankle, even though he was wearing a super sturdy ankle brace. i tried to do my best chuckie imitation, yesterday and crashed my right knee into the wall while chasing a loose ball, and retore a wound open on the lateral side of my left knee from a previous injury when i slid for a loose ball. who knew that basketball was so dangerous? (actually, i, of all people, should know quite well. during my first year of medical school, i sustained two serious injuries: my nose was fractured when someone elbowed me in the face during ball. my nose was shifted to the side, and i went to the ER. several days later, i was under general anesthesia, and i had surgery on my nose, to realign it. i personally think it's still not as straight as it used to me. my nose bled quite uncontrollably after the surgery, much more than pre-surgery. i had to wear a funky cast on my face after the surgery. the head of my left radius (part of my elbow) was fractured when someone cut under me while i was in the air, while playing basketball, causing me to land on my left wrist, elbow, and hip. that was the second time in my life that i realized the vulnerability of my health (first was my near death accident in orlando). i had to do a mental check for the parts of my body, to be sure i was decently ok. after i decided i was alive and that my head had no fractures (the left side of my head had struck the ground), several minutes of consciousness returning and fear abating revealed that i had sustained the biggest injuries of my life. to this day, my left elbow is kind of screwed up. so much for my faith in medicine, my career field . yakob at 12:53 AM |
