peds : bits of wisdom from attendings
"the perks of moving: you get the previous owner's subscriptions that they forgot to cancel, and see what they're REALLY like." (this one was particularly funny b/c this attending is rather creepy/stalker-ish looking, with stooped posture and disheveled hair.) this attending was teaching us about adolescent medicine, which was especially hilarious, because this guy didn't look like he could relate to adolescents at ALL. "mid-adolescents want to distance themselves from their parents... and they'll look to their peers for identity. they'll dress the same, in Tommy Hilfiger, or, or, or..." (he couldn't think of another), "and they'll speak the same, as if they were on Ricky Lake..." (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA) "one day, i commented to an adolescent, 'that's quite a nice BMW, isn't it?' and he said, 'word.' and i stood there, wondering what that meant. waiting for him to say more, but he didn't say anything else." (i was rolling. looking at this guy, one can easily believe such a story) killer. absolutely killer. the combination of nerdy middle aged doc who had NEVER been a normal adolescent plus modern day kids is enough to slay anyone. but as i sat there, laughing, i thought about that day that will surely come. the day when my kids, whom i'll love so much, will want to distance themselves from me. i'll be an embarassment to them. the thought makes me sad.... it's inevitable. it's part of normal development. but still.... ******** why do ppl in new york say, "dater" for data, and "idear" for idea? it's driving me crazy. ******** attending, on breast milk: "it's GREAT!! and it comes in a nice container!" HAHAHAHAHA. WELL SAID, SIR. yakob at 11:55 PM |
