    dream

setting: for a while, i had been through a blur of training. physical, virtual flight, tactical. today was finally the day.

in the pod. i am so excited that breathing is difficult. the actual pod was much dirtier than the simulation machines, but i didn't care. finally. i would really fly. approval for launch came over the intercom. i revved the engine. released the locks. the flyer gave a lurch, and dropped. too quickly. momentary plunge before i was able to right the flyer. thrust soon carried me up, up. to feel the power from the flyer, the pure speed was exhilarating.

the interior of the launch foyer was large. at least 2 miles cubed. amazing that such a space could exist within this mother ship. everything was dirty, stained, but functional. there was gray everywhere, and white was a very rare color. i soared past everything to one end of the area and into a dark tunnel lined by little blue lights. several clicks later, i came to another open space and saw other flyers lined up, ready to launch out into space. i drew to the end of the line, and a electromagnetic field locked the ship in line. i let go of the controls, sweating. launch into would commence within minutes.

dreamshift: i am on a ledge, in line. a line for what, i'm not sure.
eventually, i come closer to the beginning of the line and see that they are rationing food. i come to the front and ask for some meat and lettuce, which i am given. i turn to my left and see a broad green lawn. i give my stuff as most ppl are doing, to someone who is cooking with a complicated process. after a while, this cook refuses to take more food to cook. a frustrated bunch leaves the area, to come back with a grill. they start barbequeing. dang. that smells good. i whisper to the guy next to me, i wish i had barbequed my food. he nods in agreement.

i get my food back, cooked, but it is tasteless.

there are a lot of ppl on the lawn, and they begin to play games. frisbee, football, etc. i only watch. a strange thing happens, and they all start to drop, fast asleep. i saw ppl shifting, adjusting, trying to find a better position for comfort. a guy snagged my shirt that i had taken off earlier, to use as a pillow, but i yanked it back. i looked up, to see everyone sleeping. some in the shade, some in the sun, wriggling because of the heat. i was the only one awake.
