review: Sophie's World
i've never read a book that will give you such a thorough mind job. this book is a novel about a little girl learning about philosophy. it's also a textbook about philosophy. a textbook?!! yeah, a textbook. an ENTERTAINING textbook, that takes you on a journey about the history of man's thoughts concerning the great questions in life. i never believed that HISTORY could be fun, but here it is. i'm still amazed after reading it. i read it once before, but i don't think i was ready for what the book had to say. this time around, my mind was active and weighing everything. the hammer which comes in this book will be something you have never experienced before. think of the punch in sixth sense, and perhaps you might begin to imagine the hammer in sophie's. something that took me by surprise: i found that i had MANY thoughts like those of these philosophers. not as organized, not in a step-wise fashion, but thoughts that came to me at various stages in my life. my thoughts weren't shadows of their ideas, but EXACTLY similar thoughts. i'm going to go through the book a 3rd time, perhaps taking notes, and i'll point out the ideas that i've had myself that were exactly the same. any reader of this book will be amazed that such a brilliant book was written. the many levels the author had to think of. the way she is manipulating your mind to free it. as if she was nudging it this way and that way, so that your mind can expand just a little more each time, until it is free to see and think completely. there are many thoughts here that challenge christianity. and good, i say. it is important for every christian to hear, comtemplate, and have resolved these ideas/questions within them. these are good questions. questions that if you don't have now, you'll have later. highly recommended. i will buy this book for my daughter on her 15th birthday. :) yakob at 3:16 AM |
