I PASSED!! I have been reading my swartz text and studying the CD-ROM furiously for the past day. I was pretty confident going into the Physical Diagnosis exam. As I had predicted, my weakness was getting too interested in their story, and not being as aggressive in leading the history as I should have. Thus, I spent a good deal on the history. But it was a VERY thorough history. I even did a pretty good mental status exam, which impressed the preceptor. I proceeded onto the physical, and did a pretty good job, a good enough job that my preceptor stopped me after a while, and said, "you're very thorough, and you know your stuff." So, I didn't have to do the entire physical, after all.
Her criticisms/comments: 1) just be rude when you have to, stop the patient's story, and direct the talk 2) when doing the physical, don't do EVERYTHING (actually, the directions from course directors WAS to do everything), but just what is relevant from the history. I understand her point, she was giving me practical advice, because in the interests of time, you can't spend 1.5 hrs on every patient. But I did what I had to do because those were the directions given me. 3) overall, she was confident that I knew what I was doing, and that I had the skills to go on to third year. YEAH!!! ok, time to have some sushi with my floor pals at 5:30 (it's CHUCKIE's BIRTHDAY!!!) HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHUCKIE!!! at 6:30, going to have a surprise mini-party for the fourth years, because this will be the last thursday christian fellowship meeting for them...*sniff, sniff* i'm really going to miss these guys. they were the class to really welcome us, make us feel at home, take care of us, and make our transition from college to medical school less painful. they are not only fun and cool, they are awesome christian brothers and sisters who have really been an encouragement and blessing to us. TO ME. i'm going to miss them a lot, but I know God will use them well for His glory. the fourth years: Elias, Jacob (can you believe this guy has the same name? who is their right minds would name their kid, jacob, the deceiver?!), Tim, Sue. 7:00- weekly Christian Fellowship meeting. I'm ready for some praise and worship!! yakob at 5:07 PM |
