by the way, the nematode that comes out of the anus at night and lays eggs in the perianal area is enterobius vermicularis.
it actually never invades the body tissue of blood, just stays in the intestine, like trichuris trichura (whipworm) (eggs look like football with bumb ends) and be careful of undercooked pork, b/c there might be some trichinella spiralis cyts there. remember elephantiasis, the funky condition where the lymph system is plugged up, and so the legs look huge and scaly, like elephant legs? (c'mon, i'm sure you've seen some of those pictures, and said, "ooooohh." i remember studying at the hut at JHU with joe park, and he would make a point to go around the hut library and pick out books with funky pictures. elephantiasis is one of them, and it is caused by wuchereria bancrofti and brugia malayi, blood and tissue nematodes that are transmitted by mosquito. there is a cool blood/tissue nematode called dracunculus medinensis, that hangs around freshwater crustaceans. when you drink water with these creatures, it'll invade your intestine and subcutaneous tissue. it will loop out a part of it's body out of your skin to release eggs. you gotta stop it by putting a stick under the loop, and then twisting it a little bit every day, until the critter comes out. how low tech is that, huh? see, my blog is not just the rantings of a dude who's never dated. it's also educational. :) yakob at 9:31 PM |
