in a convo with s***, we talked about why we saps sometimes cry when we see a movie, hear a story, or read a book. if it is something super sad, like matthew dying in anne of green gables (the book, not the movie), well, that is obvious. heck, EVERYONE will cry for that.

but we saps tend to cry during particular moments. occasions that are not particularly sad. after more thought, here's what it is. we cry when people do beautiful things.

it is the standard in the world that ugly, selfish things will happen, but in the midst of such a base standard, a beautiful, lovely act will stand out. when children can be sweet and appreciate their parents. when parents will lower themselves and see eye-to-eye with their kids (i think this is why i love the author chaim potok). when schoolchildren do something kind, though they are ridiculed by their peers for it.

the most recent examples: while most schoolchildren are cruel and insensitive to each other, it makes me tear up when Kolya brought Zhuchka (the dog) to Ilyusha (the sick boy) (from: the brothers karamzov). when my hs friends continue to invite me to things, though i have not been able to go on a single trip with them in all of hs, and since. (due to conditions and circumstance. believe you me, it is not because i don't want to go...)

such things will make me tear.

it is a hard life, that of a sap.
