"A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius"

i've read A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, as well, and it was good.. but i think what bothered me most was articles i had read about him, following the publication of the novel. Essentially, they conveyed the notion that Eggers is a self-viewed martyr and self-righteous at that, regarding his role in his brother's life... even quotes from him were a little too much for me.. still, i enjoyed the book.
My recent recommendation? i just finished All Over But the Shoutin' by Rick Bragg. Really really good. autobiographical growing up in S. Alabama, made me long for home, Yacob(and i'm never homesick). A hard life, but not a sad book.
